Air transport is a key means for WFP to get food to the people that need it, particularly if a natural disaster or poor infrastructure limits other modes of transportation. WFP Aviation moves relief materials and personnel to remote areas quickly for WFP and the wider humanitarian community.
The collaboration, known as Aviation Global Framework, was created with a single all-embracing purpose: to improve the quality of WFP Aviation. The focus was put in three major categories: air transport service operations management, aviation safety and professional development training.
2007 saw a step towards even more practical, base-level activities, in the form of the Aviation Training projects. Having an ambitious goal, to train all WFP aviation staff globally according to international standards and regulations, with the full-time commitment of a TNT project manager, it presented a unique opportunity for TNT to offer its knowledge and experience in subject matter essential to safe and efficient air operations. The first training was conducted in June 2006, in N’Djamena Chad.
An equally important initiative started alongside with the training, namely a project in Customer Service. In early 2007 TNT facilitated a CS survey to over 4000 users of WFP aviation services. Based on the answers and suggestions delivered by TNT, WFP launched a new project called Customer Service Centre. At the end of January, a specialist - Maie Sahoury from TNT Jordan – started working on this project in Rome.
