Self Initiative of the Village Ngerr

did not gave us the image of a school at the first place. While getting of the car we went to see the headmaster of the school - a person about 40 in the traditional dress welcomed us very friendly.

He introduced us to the young enthusiastic teachers and explained that the community decided that they need a school and they started on there own to build up this building. For us it was very nice to see that the community sees that education is very important to develop there village as well as to give the children an better live as well.

The school are 2 classroom building with a headmasters/staff office in one building together with on classroom and the 2nd block has 2 classrooms. Attached to this block is a kind of hut, made out of woven sticks and a leave rove. This "room" is used for the small - the nursery school.

According to the WFP-regulations every school, which participate on the School Feeding Programme has to have a build kitchen, latrines and a school garden. All the mentioned buildings where also done by the community and do not follow the common standards. But for the moment it'll do fine.

The school garden was in such great condition and had so many different variety of products that Linda and I decided that we will propose that thisschool will receive our full support.

The school started to operate on September 12, 2001 and since that time more and more children are attending school and receive due to WFP a full mealevery day.

The school is in need of a new kitchen + store and latrines for boys, girls and staff. Linda and I will propose that the next TNT volunteers help this schooland the community to build it and hopefully by the end of March 2004 all will be finished.
