The Hindu brotherhood of monks Bharat Sevashram Sangha, a Hindu, well experienced NGO in relief operations around the globe, was able to respond quickly to this urgent request. Within 24 hours, an impressive 1,500 volunteers set up 10 kitchens, serving cooked food to 30,000 people for a period of 20 days. The Ramakrishna Mission provided shelter for the thousands of people left with nothing more than the clothes on their bodies. The smaller Kultali Milon Tirtha Society concentrated on food, safe drinking water and medical aid. For a month 100 volunteers shipped 150,000 litres of drinking water by boat. These are examples of fast and efficient aid, which has been provided by thousands of relief workers.

TNT India teamed up with all three NGO’s. Since the Indian government is now fully taking care of food and water supply, the Aila victims’ next urgent need is medical assistance. TNT’s Moving The World team released a budget of EUR 50,000, of which a substantial amount is spent on doctors and paramedics hired by the NGO’s. TNT purchases and transports the medicine needed to treat common diseases such as diarrhoea, gastritis, cold coughs and tropical skin conditions.

The NGO’s found a professional and reliable partner in TNT. Speaking to their presidents, all three NGO’s praised TNT’s humanitarian sense of responsibility. Private sector companies can help with funds, expertise and also their extensive network of contacts both in political and commercial organisations.

Mr Manoj Bhattacharya, a former member of the Indian Parliament, describes TNT as leading and that now other companies are following. “I want to extend my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to TNT and hope they will continue their kind assistance for the cause of humanity.”

Dear Tanja, It was nice working with you for past 7 days. Our team has gathered nice experiences . During our work , we have seen that "How people are help less" We have gone into the deep and remote villages and have seen them. In todays date I am remembering one famous song of Mr.Bhupen Hazarika that " Manush Manusher Janya" i.e "Man is there to help man " Regards... Rahul
