I’ve been here for 10 days and it seems that I knew the team from old times. It’s very grateful being part of a very committed and focused group. Even though people are tired after several weeks of intensive work and their faces show this, around here you will not receive an “I can’t”. We work more than 12 or 14 hours a day for one reason, on the other side of the border there are people who need this effort from us.
As TNT employees it’s always good to see some numbers and how this effort we are all doing is reflected in something real. Up to date a total of approximately 1835 tons of food and 14500 m3 of Non Food Items (this includes hygiene kits, tents, tools, medical supplies, communication instruments, etc.) were transported from the Dominican Republic to Haiti.
Head coordinator from the WFP office in Santo Domingo put a picture of some Haiti kids in the public board and wrote over it “This is who we work for’. It’s a great idea that gives motivation and commitment to everyone working at the office and who are not having direct contact with the beneficiaries.
I say goodbye thanking TNT Argentina’s team who encourage me to participate and special thanks to Alex Stukenberg for asking me a very simple question while we were discussing about my experience in TNT Operations. I was telling him that I worked in the PUD department and he asked me: ‘Instead of coordinating pick ups and deliveries for documents or parcels, would you like to do the same with food for people that really need it?’. The truth is he was right, I like it so much.
Cheers, Juan
