Last week at Namanga, Salgaa and Emali, all in Kenya
Last week we have driven approx. 1900 kms from the south to the north, it was a real experience, driving these roads and not all as smooth, compared to the roads around the Nairobi area.
Monday and Tuesday we went for Namanga, this clinic is located at the south-border with Tanzania.
Once I got there, a huge crowd of Masai people came up to me, all giving me “To remember me by’s” for free they said, wrong….they want money…and not small coins, so I bought one Item, about 2 euro’s and told them, sorry…I can only sponsor just one of you, otherwise I run out of money before I get to the next clinic.
Technically it was a challenge because the computer was corrupted and wouldn’t even start up right; they shipped it back to the store and got it repaired while I was already at the next clinic.
Fortunately the clinician was no stranger to the programs that he needs to use every day, so I’ll try to fix the last issues remote, working from the next clinic; this has not been working out just right, due to power failures and the internet connection going up and down with it.
Wednesday and Thursday I went to Salgaa, a town 2,5 hrs drive from Nairobi, this site is still under construction as the 2nd 40-foot container was recently placed there.
The carpenter is creating the interior and wasn’t finished when I left on Thursday.
At this clinic I’ve had the same issues like Namanga, corrupted computer, no working antivirus and no Internet connection at that time, so we took the computer by car to Nakuru, 30 kms drive from the clinic to an Cyber centre to get the right software from the net, all my flash drive’s, I always take with me, got infected the moment they went into the computer.
Fortunately the internet connection was up when we got back from town, so I was able to train the new clinician, but due to the tight schedule, we have to solve the last issues remotely.
Friday I went to Emali, 2 hrs drive from Nairobi and met the clinician Caroline, she had some experiences with comets and just needed some advice on how to fill in some parts of Comets.
The computer however, again was very corrupted due to viruses, but that could be fixed, wasn’t it for the power and consequently, the internet connection going down, also at this site we have some loose ends to solve.
Next week (which is now) I’ll be at Malaba Uganda, traveling from and to Kisumu Kenya, the second site is Katuna Uganda in the south, traveling to and from Kigali Rwanda.
