Emergency Response Team

TNT has an Emergency Response Team on stand-by to help WFP in any emergency situation. The trained stand-by team provides hands-on assistance in technical areas in the field as well as training for WFP staff.

Much of the work of the WFP involves getting food to the hungry in emergency situations. WFP establishes what it calls Emergency Operations (EMOPs) to address refugee crises; sudden disasters such as floods or earthquakes; slow-onset disasters, such as droughts or crop failures, and complex emergencies such as conflicts.

TNT can respond to requests from WFP within 48 hours and support them in emergencies in the following areas:

  • Airport coordination and ramp handling
  • Transport coordination
  • Warehouse management, an
  • Reports and communication
So what can you expect as a member of the TNT Emergency Response Team? You are in for long days, hard work, rough conditions and stress. If this does not scare you, you will have an exciting assignment seeing new places, getting new wonderful experiences and working with some of the best people in the business. All in all, something to tell your grandchildren about. - Kimmo Laine, TNT Express Finland, specialist

The ER team was created following deployments during the Tsunami - and has since helped the WFP in many disaster-stricken countries, for example after the 2005 Pakistan earthquake and the 2007 Bangladesh cyclone.
