Awareness and Fundraising

Employee Fundraising 2004

In 2004, TNT employees raised a total of €1,768,356 - enough to feed 120,000 children for a full year.

Young TNT waits on ASMM managers
In a creative demonstration of initiative taking, members of Young TNT surprised senior managers on the first day of their annual meeting this January by becoming kitchen and waiting staff for the day. This year's Annual Senior Management Meeting was held at the prestigious Kurhaus Hotel in Scheveningen. With the cooperation of the hotel's management, 39 volunteers from Young TNT replaced many of the hotel's regular kitchen and waiting staff on the ASMM's first day. The scheme was devised by Young TNT's ‘Young for Young' committee, which was set up to spread awareness about Moving the World amongst members of the employee association and to raise funds for the School Feeding Support initiative. "Our idea was to save costs and donate the savings to the WFP," explains Pauline van Vliet, the committee's chairperson and Manager of Internal Communications at TNT Post. "Together with further savings made by the Kurhaus, who donated some rooms, we have been able to raise €9,600 for Moving the World."

Aid for Beslan from Moscow office
In September the world watched in horror as a three-day hostage crisis unfolded in Beslan, North Ossetia. Over 300 civilians were killed, and many more were left scarred, both physically and emotionally. The staff of TNT's Moscow office, which enthusiastically participated in Walk the World in June, decided to donate the US$3,000 they had raised to buy food for the victims of the tragedy in Beslan. They also collected more money, toys and books, which were delivered to the nearest hospital.
