At the same time TNT colleagues from all over the world are organising relief activities for the people affected by the storms. While TNT Philippines is transporting relief materials for WFP, colleagues from Australia, the United States, New Zealand and India are raising funds and collecting relief materials.
TNT, together with two other logistics companies, UPS and Agility, is helping WFP to move food aid to the people affected by flooding in the Philippines and an earthquake in Padang, Indonesia. Peter French, WFP Deputy Regional Director for Asia noted: “By helping WFP ensure food supplies reach people affected by these natural disasters as quickly as possible, these companies are playing a lead role in helping save lives. The expertise and resources they are providing come at a critical time and are invaluable.”
Tomorrow, a TNT Boeing 747-400 will airlift 100 MT of high energy biscuits to Manilla. That’s 100,000 kilos of biscuits. The Boeing will arrive in Manilla on Friday. Emergency Response Team member Peter Cermak, who works for our European Mail Network, will join the flight to report on the situation in the Philippines and to help with the food transport. On 23 October the Boeing will make a second flight to Manilla, again filled with 100 MT of biscuits.
On Tuesday 13 October, we airlifted 30 tons of high energy biscuits from Surabaya to Padang. TNT will transport 20 tons more in trucks. Emergency Response Team member Stephanie Kessen, HR manager from Cendris, is currently in Padang to report on the relief activities and to help with the distribution.
Aside from the airlifts, TNT colleagues from all over the world are organising fundraisers and collections in support of the people affected by the storms. TNT India has asked their employees to donate a day’s salary after flash rains have ravaged southern India. TNT staff in the United States is raising funds for the Philippines and in New Zealand and Australia colleagues are collecting relief materials like clothing, blankets and toys for the victims of the tsunami in Samoa.
