In a press conference she gave in London on 16 Septemer, Sheeran explained that the combination of rising food prices and and fund cutbacks due to the financial crisis are severely impacting WFP's fight against hunger. In October WFP will be faced with the decision to cut elements of their service, affecting many people in high need regions.
In her statement, Sheeran calls upon countries, companies and individuals to think about the most vulnerable in these times of economic recuperation. Since only 0.01 percent of the funds that stabilised the financial market would be enough to help all the needy, she hopes she can get the world to "step up the plate in a bigger way".
