TNT supports WFP to increase their efficiency in Logistic Operations. TNT specialists help WFP to analyse transport and distribution systems in order to increase the flow of food aid to the area and reduce costs.
The first Transport Optimisation project was performed in Liberia in 2007. The aim of the project was to help WFP optimise their transport routes and to improve the efficiency of their transport capacity. TNT specialists have recommended suitable sites for Extended and Final Distribution Points (EDP/FDP) which will optimise food distribution to e.g. schools and improve delivery schedules. As a result of the project, the efficiency of WFP operations in Liberia has greatly improved with reduced lead times, reduced workloads and substantial cost savings with a minimum of 20%.
TNT is currently performing Transport Optimisation projects in Mali and Ethiopia. TNT specialists are analysing warehouse capacity, fleet utilization, road conditions and the countries’ infrastructure. In Mali, they are developing a special distribution network next to a standard optimised model to be able to deliver food on time during the rainy season.
In Kenya, TNT specialists have carried out an extensive transport report and made recommendations for transport and logistics infrastructure improvements that will encourage economic development.
