These are numbers that one almost cannot grasp. In a country like India with a total number of 1.2 billion people, where the economy is booming and which also holds the number 2 place on the list of ‘countries with most billionaires’ it is almost hard to believe that half of its population has to struggle every day to make a living.

Last week I started in Delhi to talk to WHO about participation in the Fleet Safety project. WHO operates a large fleet here as they are monitoring a polio project. All in all 350 doctors are driving around the countries to monitor immunization rounds and to watch closely if polio doesn't break out again (I always thougth that the world was polio-free these days...not). As WHO is also in the process of purchasing new vehicles including tracking systems it looks like they want to integrate the project in their new and improved fleet management system and approach.

A couple of months ago I was approached by Mike Patrick, Director Safety, Health and Environment. He explained that TNT joined hands with Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP) and Shell to set up the India Road Safety Partnership (IRSP), a public-private-civil society partnership and he invited Fleet Forum to join as well. The objective of the IRSP is to reduce the number of accidents and incidents and to share best practices. I didn’t have to think long….of course Fleet Forum wants to join!
